Boyce Thorne Miller is an oceanographer and author who has worked as an advocate for the ocean for nearly three decades.  She began on the staff of the Oceanic Society, where she was a pioneer in national and global policies related to marine biodiversity and authored her first book on the subject. Then, with Friends of the Earth, she expanded her work on marine pollution into the global policy arena, became an expert on implementation of the precautionary principle in international agreements, and published her second book on marine biodiversity.

She was a consultant for several national and international nongovernmental organizations on coastal environmental issues and biodiversity, and later with SeaWeb, she delved more into fisheries and aquaculture policies. In 2008, she joined the staff of the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, where she worked for several years with local fishing communities.

Charles Miller is a trial attorney at Bartko, Zankel, Bunzel & Miller, a professional law corporation. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law.He specializes in complex business litigation. Over the course of his career, he has handled a wide variety of matters, including class actions and multi-district litigation in various state and federal courts.


Stan Minasian is an environmental documentary filmmaker whose films have appeared on the Discovery Channel, Turner Broadcasting, Public Broadcasting, Westinghouse Broadcasting Systems and internationally.He is president of Earthviews Productions, a nonprofit production company whose films have won Emmy awards, Genesis awards, and Best-of-Show awards in international wildlife film festivals.


Birgit Winning is president and executive director of Bluecology. Previously, she served as president of The Oceanic Society for 24 years, and also has worked in management at Steinhart Aquarium, California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.  She has served on several national and international marine protected areas committees and councils, and produced best practices guidelines on behalf of governmental agencies.  She also has well as authored and co-authored popular and technical articles on marine life and threatened habitats.
